1925 : Foundation of the studfarm
Haras des Monceaux was established in 1925 by Ralph Beaver Strassburger, an American industrialist, who quickly makes of Monceaux, one of France most successful and influential breeding farm.
The farm originally covered 125 hectares on which were born and raised champions that left their mark on today’s thoroughbred stud book.
NORSEMAN (Umidwar x Tara) : prix Robert Papin, 3rd Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, sire of Seria (Prix de Diane).
WORDEN (Wild risk x Sans Tares) : Washington DC International, 3rd King George VI & Queen Elzbeth Stakes, 3rd Arc de Triomphe.
PENSBURY (Brantôme x Celerine) : Prix Lupin, Prix Greffuhle, Grand Prix de Paris, 2nd Jockey Club.
2003 : Creation of Ecurie des Monceaux
In 2003, Lucien Urano, who successfully breeds and races French trotters with Ecurie des Charmes, decided to go into the challenging project of launching a thoroughbred breeding with international ambitions. He thus acquired the bygone prestigious farm, that was then abandoned for a few years, and set up the Ecurie des Monceaux. Since then, the stud farm has kept developing through acquisitions of lands and broodmares as well as large investments in modern facilities. All the attentions serve now a unique goal : to produce high quality racehorses.
In 2011, Ecurie des Monceaux ended being 2dn leading vendor at the Arqana August sales, and best average price. In 2012 and 2013, Ecurie des Monceaux becomes the leading vendor at the Arqana yearling sales.
This success is the result of the race success of the Monceaux bred horses:
8 years after its creation, Ecurie des Monceaux has already bred 4 G1 winners (CHICQUITA, classic winner of the Irish Oaks, ECTOT, G1 winner at 2 in France in 2013, MOST IMPROVED, Royal Ascot G1 winner and CHARM SPIRIT ), as well as many stakes and group winners (FREE PORT LUX, CHARM SPIRIT, WILD WIND, HARD DREAM, PACIFIQUE, SPLIT TROIS, LA PEINTURE, TRIBUNE, PRUDENZIA, MONTCLAIR, REALITY, WITHOUT FEAR etc….)
All these successes have enabled us to re-invest in top quality mares, new land and infrastructure.
